September 6 – 13, 2018

We spent the first two days of the trip at a conference in Vancouver to get updated on the latest info on my SCAD heart condition (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection).

Then it was time to go sightseeing. Taking the mini ferries is a great way to get around.

Colorful Granville Island

Yaletown

We loved our B&B in a historic neighborhood near the waterfront, train, and Vancouver General Hospital (the location of the conference).

Next up, Vancouver Island. We took a BC Ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Duke Point (Nanaimo). The first photo is of the lovely view from our Airbnb. The second is a view of the Airbnb (in the center of the photo) at low tide. We stayed in the entire lower floor of this large home.

Our Airbnb was near the small and charming town of Ladysmith. While waiting for our takeout pizza, we walked along the main drag and discovered a US Post Office. What?!? We asked a local who explained that they were shooting a U.S. based movie in town.

The nearby town of Chemainus is still a logging town (since 1858) but is best known for its murals.

The town of Duncan is known for its totem poles.

Marc spent quite a bit of this vacation working.

Nanaimo

We moved on to a HomeAway vacation rental near Victoria. Originally the boathouse, it’s now a “tiny house” vacation rental.

Lovely Sidney

Taking a picture of the red ornamentation of Victoria’s Chinatown from my red car with my red phone.

Best eats on our trip: Red Fish Blue Fish, an outdoor restaurant on Victoria’s waterfront. The jerk fish poutine was amazing!

The parliament buildings and the famous Empress Hotel.

A nice stroll along the waterfront to Victoria’s Fisherman’s wharf.

Very narrow Fan Tan Alley.

Last evening at our beach house.

Leaving Victoria on a Blackball Ferry headed to the U.S.
